Seaman's Church Institute

​In 1919 the Bishop of Pennsylvania a group of Episcopalians who were active in seafarer ministry in the Philadelphia region. Together they formed a charter of for the Seamen's Church Institute. Since that time the Institute has been affiliated with the diocese in serving the 30,000 sealers that visit our port annually. The diocese has been generous in its support of this mission through contributions and the annual preparation of "ditty bags" to give to seafarers during the holiday season.
